1.Preparation
Before putting on a swim cap, comb your hair neatly. If you have long hair, you can braid it or tie it into a moderate – tension ponytail. This prevents hair from getting messy while wearing the cap. For short hair, just ensure it’s tangle – free.
Choose a suitable swim cap. There are various materials like silicone and fabric caps. Silicone caps fit closely, are waterproof, and suit both long and short hair. Fabric caps are more comfortable and breathable, making them ideal for short – haired individuals or those allergic to silicone.
2.Steps to put on a swim cap
Open the swim cap : Hold the cap and keep its edge open. For silicone caps, which are highly elastic, use your thumbs to widen the opening from the inside, and use other fingers to hold the edge, forming a large circular opening.
Pull over your head : Align the cap’s opening with your head, start from the back of your head and pull the cap over. Move gently to prevent the cap from turning inside out or catching your hair. Those with long hair should ensure their braids or ponytails are fully covered.
Adjust the position : After the cap is on your head, use your index and middle fingers to gently pull it back, fitting the edge around your ears. Then adjust downward to fully cover your hair, with the cap’s lower edge sitting at the base of your skull and ears completely inside. If any long hair is exposed, tuck it back in.
3.Check and secure
Check if the swim cap fits evenly around your head, with no wrinkles or uneven tightness. A too – tight cap can cause discomfort and affect blood circulation, while a too – loose one may slip off during swimming.
Apply a small amount of hair conditioner or Vaseline around the cap’s edge to increase friction between the cap and scalp, stopping it from slipping in water. However, don’t over – apply to avoid interference with wearing and post – swim cleaning.
